Tennis & Pickleball Court Coating Removal
Removing old acrylic court coatings back to the slab — the work this company started on in 1976.
Where this company started, in 1976.
David Paul Foster Company began on tennis courts, and fifty years later court coating removal is still work we take on across Southern California. Thousands of courts have been through our crews in that time.
A court is a coating problem that repeats on a schedule. Every few years it gets another acrylic color coat, and every cycle adds build. Eventually the accumulated system cracks and delaminates, holds water in the low spots and stops taking a new coat properly. The only real answer at that point is to take it back to the slab.

Equipment most surfacing contractors do not own
Stripping a court is a different job from surfacing one, and it needs different machinery. That is why court resurfacing contractors regularly bring us in rather than attempt it — we take the old system off and hand back a slab their new surface can bond to.
It is also why we can be honest with owners about what their court actually needs. We do not sell the resurfacing, so there is nothing in it for us in recommending a strip that is not due.

Tennis & Pickleball Court Coating Removal questions
How many coats build up on a court before it has to come off?
More than most owners realize. Courts get recoated every few years, and each cycle adds thickness. Eventually the build-up cracks, blisters and holds water, and another color coat on top just repeats the problem on a thicker base. At that point it has to come back to the slab, and that is the work we do.
Do you resurface the court as well, or only strip it?
We are specialists in the removal. Plenty of court resurfacing contractors bring us in to strip a court back and then lay their own system over what we leave. If you are an owner rather than a contractor we are happy to talk you through what the court needs and who is well placed to surface it.
Can you work around a school or club schedule?
Yes, and we usually have to. Courts belong to somebody's season. Summer breaks, off-season windows and phased work across a multi-court facility are all normal for us. Tell us the dates you actually have and we will tell you honestly whether the work fits in them.
What condition will the slab be in afterwards?
Back to bare, sound concrete with a profile suitable for a new surfacing system. Cracks in the slab itself become visible once the build-up is off, which is often the first time an owner sees the real condition of their court — and it is far better to see it then than through a brand new color coat.
